The important tradition of mat-making in Fiji using woven fronds of pandanus palm also led to the making of other items such as hand fans. The Fijian word for a hand fan is Irubuli. The hand fan is waived back-and-forth to create an airflow and can become useful during summer time. These hand fan can also be used as a home decoration.
